Manufacturing Performance Assessment
This shows where your production floor moves from active to optimized.
Throughput is about volume. Effectiveness is about efficiency. It moves past making units to whether every labor hour and machine cycle is delivering the value it could — surfacing the lost time and wasted material that usually go unnoticed.
What You'll Need — four pillars:
Available Labor: total available human capital, adjusted for breaks and unplanned downtime.
Machine Capacity: the physical limits of your equipment and the maintenance to keep it running.
Production Speed: how fast units move through the line against ideal cycle time.
Quality Standard: first-time-right products versus those needing scrap or rework.
Your Results — four layers:
Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE): availability, performance, and quality combined into one percentage.
Capacity Utilization: how much labor and machine potential you're actually capturing versus sitting idle.
Quality Metrics (FPY & Defect Rate): how much profit is scrapped or reworked before it reaches the customer.
Labor Productivity: the output generated per hour worked.
Worth Knowing
High volume isn't high profit. A 5% cut in downtime or scrap is often worth more to the bottom line than adding a second shift. Running machines harder just to make more waste doesn't help.
