Retirement Calculator

This calculator answers one question: will your savings cover the retirement you have in mind? You enter what you have and what you plan to spend, and it shows you whether the money lasts, for how long, and what it costs you in tax along the way - after tax, and counting only the money you can actually spend.

You work through five short sections, one at a time: your timeline, your spending, your guaranteed income, your savings, and a few tax assumptions. Sample figures are filled in as examples. Replace them with your own, and change any answer before you finish.

What You'll Need:

  • Your age now, the age you plan to retire, and how long the money should last.

  • About what you spend in a year, in today's dollars.

  • Your guaranteed income: Social Security, and any pension or annuity.

  • Your account balances, grouped by cash, retirement, and taxable.

  • An expected return and an inflation rate. If you are unsure, the samples are sensible starting points.

Your Results

  • What you will have set against what you will need, and whether that leaves a surplus or a shortfall.

  • The age your savings would run out, and the number of years your portfolio lasts.

  • The tax behind it all, worked out for you, with the arithmetic shown so you can see why.

  • Room to add one-time costs, such as a wedding, tuition, or a new roof, and to lower or raise your spending in later years.

  • A year-by-year table you can download and check line by line.

Worth Knowing

Everything goes in as today's dollars; the calculator handles the inflating and compounding, so you never have to guess what a figure is worth decades out. It is an educational estimate, not advice, and it leaves out a few things a full plan would weigh: required minimum distributions, Medicare premiums, the survivor's taxes after one spouse dies, and whether a bad market year lands early or late. Read the surplus as a floor with room to spare, not a promise.

See what your savings really have to cover in retirement - after taxes, and using only the money you can actually spend.

You will work through five short sections, one at a time:

  1. Your timeline - when you retire and how long the money must last
  2. Your spending, and any money you want set aside
  3. Your guaranteed income, such as Social Security or a pension
  4. Your savings and accounts
  5. A few tax and planning assumptions

At the end you will see whether your plan funds your full retirement, how long the money lasts, and the tax behind it.

Takes about 5 minutes to complete. Every field starts with a sample figure as an example - replace it with your own. You can go back and change any answer before you finish.

Tax figures are current as of July 2026. This calculator is an educational estimate provided by Getana as general information. It is not financial, tax, investment, or legal advice, is not a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any security or product, and does not create an advisory or fiduciary relationship. Results are hypothetical projections based solely on the assumptions you enter; actual returns, inflation, tax law, health costs, and longevity will differ, and no projected result is guaranteed. The model does not account for required minimum distributions, Medicare premiums or IRMAA surcharges, the survivor's tax situation after a spouse's death, market sequence risk, health care costs before Medicare eligibility at 65, early-withdrawal penalties on pre-tax accounts before age 59 and a half, asset allocation or investment risk, the order in which accounts are drawn down, spousal or survivor Social Security calculations, state estate or inheritance taxes, or liabilities including mortgages. Federal brackets and deductions shown are for tax year 2026 (IRS Revenue Procedure 2025-32) and change annually - a 30-year projection necessarily assumes tax law that does not yet exist. Cost-of-care figures are 2025 national medians from the CareScout (Genworth) Cost of Care Survey. Verify at ssa.gov, irs.gov, and with a licensed advisor, CPA, or attorney before acting.
